LUXXURY’s ‘How To Be Good’ EP (December 16, Nolita Records) compiles the 3 singles released this year by LA-based producer Blake Robin, along with a new dreamy single ‘Breathe (Again).’ Having made a name for himself in the disco world with his controversial LUXXURY edits, a series of unauthorized remixes played by DJ Harvey, Greg Wilson, Psychemagik, Ursula 1000, Junior Sanchez, In Flagranti and hundreds more, Luxxury kicked off 2016 with a slate of new original smooth-yet-dance-able vintage disco/funk songs.
LUXXURY’s sound is heavily steeped in classic West Coast sunshine vintage disco vibes, like LCD Soundsystem, Poolside and Jungle dipped in the Bee Gees and remixed by Todd Terje. The ‘How to be Good’ EP hits a perfect blend of modern and vintage disco and funk right off the bat with opening single ‘Breathe (Again).’ ‘Take it Slow’ and ‘Hold On’, both originally issued on Brooklyn’s Deep&Disco (Escort), are slow disco classics in the making, featuring shimmering Rhodes piano, funk bass, and Robin’s own blue eyed soul falsetto. A slower, melancholy funk number ‘What Do Ya Really Want?’, was originally posted by the venerable tastemaker Majestic Casual. Combined the 3 singles have garnered over 1 million cross-platform plays and scored LUXXURY a coveted spot playing live on NBC’s Carson Daly as well as a slot opening for disco legend Giorgio Moroder. Robin also recently toured the UK and Mexico, and will close out the year opening for for The Juan Maclean in New York City New Years Eve.
