The songwriters Tor Hansen and Sven Waagan recalls “We met Nelly for the first time at an off-beat nightclub in Oslo, and immediately discovered our mutual passion for retro disco music. We were later invited to one of her concerts, where Nelly’s ability to master various instruments got us even more excited. Through her Dance Pop sensibilities, and our geeky fixation with details, we started rekindling the old school dance floor vibes.”
The result is Nelly’s Crush – male falsetto and female vocals, combined with Chic-guitars dancing over an electronic savanna. ‘Get Off’ blends elements from Whitney Houston’s ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ and Prince’s ‘I Wanna Be Your Lover’, with noticeable inspiration from the 70’s westcoast as well as British club music.
The seven piece band has been working in ARC Studio since autumn 2015 with Erlend Mokkelbost (Montée, Bow To Each Other, Jonas Alaska) to polish their debut album, due for release later in 2016, and was recently added to the Øya Festival’s club line-up. Live, they recreate their sound with their unconventional, yet made-for-the-dancefloor mix of synth riffs, nu-disco grooves, flute and trombone.
‘Get Off’ is available through all digital streaming services since August 5th, 2016.
